The Hadley-Lake Luzerne Historical Society Programming includes The Courtland St. Burying Ground: The Archaeology, Bio-Archaeology and History of a Revolutionary War Site in Lake George

July 27 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

From their Facebook Posting:

“The Hadley-Lake Luzerne Historical Society is pleased to include in our programming schedule…

The Courtland St. Burying Ground: The Archaeology, Bio-Archaelogy and History of a Revolutionary War Site in Lake George

Presented by

  • Charles Vandrei – Agency Historic Preservation Officer; Archaelogist, Office of Indian Nation Affairs, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
  • Lisa Anderson – Curator of Bioarchaeology and Repatriation Coordinator at the NYS Museum

Between February 2019 and September 2020, skeletal remains and artifacts were recovered from a cemetery that had been disturbed by construction activity on Cortland Street in the Village of Lake George. Archaeological and historical information attributed these remains to a hospital built for American soldiers returning from the 1775-1776 invasion of Quebec. We will report on the discovery, recovery, and analysis of the site and on efforts to create a suitable retirement and memorial site.
