Hadley-Lake Luzerne Historical Society’s Monthly Program: The Hudson River Mill Museum
October 12 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
From their Facebook Posting: “On Thursday, October 12th, from 6:30-7:00 PM, the Hadley=Lake Luzerne Historical Society presents its monthly program, ‘The Hudson River Mill Museum.’ The program, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the Rockwell Falls Public Library, Main Street, Lake Luzerne.
From 7 PM ’til 7:30 PM, as light refreshments are enjoyed, the Annual Meeting of the Membership and Board of Directors will be held. The slate of officers and new board members will be presented. Members of the society are encouraged to recognize those who volunteer their efforts to support the mission of the Society: ‘to discover, preserve, and share the history of the towns of Hadley and Lake Luzerne in the southern Adirondacks of New York state.’
The evening’s program focuses on ‘The Hudson River Mill Museum’, located at 17 Pine Street, Corinth. The Museum is in the Time Office building of Corinth’s International Paper Company. The International Paper Company and its employees have strong ties to the communities that surround it. The seventeen small mills that merged in 1898 to make International Paper Company the world’s largest paper company included Lake Luzerne’s Manufacturer’s Paper Company. That mill’s founder, Albracht Pagenstecher, joined the International Paper Company’s Board of Directors when that company was created in 1898.
Several friends of the Hudson River Mill Museum will present an informative discussion and slide show. The group is currently moving forward with its campaign, ‘Destination Restoration’ to restore the Time Office building as a museum. The fundraising campaign is supported by the Hudson River Community Credit Union, who will donate up to $5,000.00 in matching funds for donations received by September 30th, 2023. For more information, please see ‘The Friends of the Hudson River Mill Museum’ Facebook page or come to our October meeting.
