1 day. 9 am Ð 5 pm.Ê Tuition $130. Member Tuition $105. Materials fee $20.ÊÊIn this class students will design, shape and carve a serving spoon. Skills explored include: making a template and transferring it to a blank, carving and shaping the bowl and back of the spoon, use of hand tools such as gouges, scrapers, coping saws, and spokeshaves, and sanding and finishing techniques. Students will leave class with a beautiful, handcrafted hardwood spoon to use in their own kitchens or to give as a gift!

Materials fee $15.ÊÊTake a Òtrip in a cupÓ as we explore cultures from around the world and their tea rituals where a Sacred Union is made between plant and water. WeÕll start this touch, smell, feel and taste workshop with a walk outdoors to identify and harvest plants. Then weÕll come into the classroom for a hands-on infusion making experience. As we sip the prepared infusions, weÕll discuss the many roles which tea and plant infusions have played throughout history, their differences, and the benefits of inviting them into your life. This class is a delightful journey for the senses and includes a hands-on component where we will make, and enjoy, an herbal chai tea! Special Notes:Ê Please let us know if you have any food related allergies we need to accommodate for this class. Students should bring with them a cutting board, knife and apron.

Come create a bit of history as you build a Sagamore chair using patterns struck from one of the original chairs; all the forms and patterns necessary are provided. Learn how to steam bend local Adirondack Red Oak into the graceful forms of this one-of-a-kind chair that is both beautiful and comfortable. Working with a variety of hand tools, you will bend and fasten the slats, laminate frame elements, join everything together and sand, finish and complete a beautiful chair ready for a prominent spot in your camp or home. All you need to create a true rustic living room is to complement your Rustic End Table with an Adirondack Sofa or Coffee Table. Learn traditional furniture making while using materials found in this region: Birch bark, twigs, logs and more. You will be guided from start to finish and in the process, you will learn about material selection, basic joinery and the use of hand tools including Japanese saw, wood chisels, jigs and others. This will be a fun and intensive class and you will leave with a fine sofa or coffee table suitable for your ÒGreat CampÓ or home.

AFS: Tuffet Footstool, Day One
2 half days. 9am-1pm. Tuition $130. Member Tuition $105. Materials fee $135.ÊÊMake an 18-inch custom tuffet-style footstool. Great for quilters, as it will free you from all those strips of fabric that get stashed about the sewing room. Students can use as many different fabrics as they like. The pattern can be made with 2-64 different strips. The first day is for piecing tuffet top. Students will learn to mark the pattern onto the fabric and begin the sewing. There will be some homework to complete sewing the tuffet top during the weeklong break between classes. The second day students will complete the tuffet top assembly and upholster the tuffet. A list of necessary materials students must bring will be sent out prior to the class.

This class is geared towards beginner to intermediate photographers who want to learn solid fundamentals and put them into practice with instruction. Dave will share an intro slideshow of his work and a discussion on ethics, safety, subject knowledge and increasing success rate. There will be a handout that covers discussion points of basic camera use, lens selection, composition and more. This class will include photographing live Raptors from a local Wildlife Educator, and a talk on responsible birding and bird photography.

AFS: Intro. to Clay/Ceramics – Hand Building (Day One)
2 half days. 9am-12pm. Tuition $130. Member Tuition $105. Materials fee $45.ÊÊClay arts has historical common traditions across all cultures. It is easy to shape, sculpt and transform into ceramics. Imagine making bowls, cups, wind chimes and moreÉ. through the use of clay medium. This two-day workshop allows for experimentation in creating various forms (2-3 pieces per student). On day one students will learn basic hand-building pottery techniques; explore pinch, coil and slab. After a drying period of three weeks, on the second day students will learn how to decorate and glaze their piece NOTE: Location: 1746 U.S. 9, Lake George, NY 12845, Alfred Z. Solomon Lake George Annex, located on Rt. 9 in the Log Jam Outlets immediately behind the Log Jam Restaurant. Special Notes: Dress to mess. Class is suited for students ages 8 Ð 14 w/a parent, and 15 and up on their own. Supplies include clay, tool sharing, glazing and firing. Forms made will have a drying period before firing, and then glazing. Students will need to return to pick up finished pieces or make shipping arrangements with AFS.
