AFS: Let’s Make Tools w/ Ron Nichols

3 days. 9am-4pm. Tuition $435. Member Tuition $375. Materials fee $75. All good blacksmiths need to be able to make tools that enable them to make beautiful pieces. This fun class is an opportunity for smiths to make these essential tools and more importantly, to learn toolmaking so you may make even more tools at your shop whenever you need them. You will make various sizes of punches and drifts, as well as chisels, and we will delve into set hammers, cut-off chisels, and bottom tooling depending on interests and time available. You will also learn how to anneal; heat treat and temper all of your new tools. Special Notes: Hard shoes and long pants are required for studentÕs safety.

AFS: Intro. to Woodturning w/ John Kingsley

1/2 day. 9am-12pm. Tuition $75. Member Tuition $60. Materials fee $15.ÊÊTo every season turn, turn, turn! This course is for people who have an interest in learning how to turn. The emphasis will be on learning how to use the lathe and tools safely and correctly. In this class you will learn the basics of creating spindle-based objects. Then you will use your new-found skills to create a candlestick and a wooden pen. Friends and family will be truly impressed! YouÕll need to take this class before moving on to the more advanced turning classes. NOTE: For your safety: no loose-fitting clothes, hair tied back, comfortable shoes and no jewelry. If sensitive to wood dust, registration for turning classes is not recommended.

AFS: Lidded Catch All Basket w/ Dona Nazarenko

1 day. 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Tuition $130. Member Tuition $105. Materials fee $49. The simplicity of this Òcatch allÓ has a slight graceful curve at the corners, rimmed with a hoop and lashed with cane. Woven using reed, Dona will share tips on shaping up the sides. This is a student favorite of DonaÕs designs. The lid allows for students to hide away their trinkets inside. This is a quick and fun project for all, with great results! This basket is appropriate for basket weavers of all levels. Dimensions 6_ x 7_ x 7_ high.

AFS: Equine Imagery – A Day of Learning & Shooting w/ Dave Oxford

This class is geared towards beginner to intermediate photographers who want to learn solid fundamentals and put them into practice with instruction. Dave will share an intro slideshow of his work and a discussion on ethics, safety, subject knowledge and increasing success rate. There will be a handout that covers discussion points of basic camera use, lens selection, composition and more. This class will include shooting at a local horse farm in the Saratoga area, with an opportunity to photography Mares and foals, along with older horses and scenic shots.

AFS: Cheesemaking – Cheddar & Mozzarella w/ Roberta Devers

2 days. 9am-4pm. Tuition $260. Member Tuition $210. Materials fee $25. Come and learn to make Cheddar, Mozzarella, and Whey Ricotta the traditional way. We will learn to make our own cultures rather than using laboratory produced cultures and will even discuss how to make homemade rennet. We will also make yogurt and cultured butter. All products will be made using organic, grass-fed, raw milk. It is recommended that you purchase (and review) the book, ÒThe Art of Natural CheesemakingÓ, by David Asher. This class is a combination of demonstration and hands on. NOTE: Location: 1746 U.S. 9, Lake George, NY 12845, Alfred Z.
