History of the Adirondack Park

Noted Adirondack authority Phil Brown will be our guest speaker. He will discuss the creation of what we know as the "Adirondack Park" in 1892. Since 1999, he has been Editor of the Adirondack Explorer, a regional bi monthly with a focus on outdoor recreation and environmental issues. He is the author of Adirondack Padding; 60 Great Flat Water Adventures and the editor of Bob Marshall in the Adirondack, an anthology of Marshall's writings.

Luzerne Music Center will host the sixth annual "Move it for the Music" 5K Run/Walk in support of LMC scholarships.
The race course is sprinkled with terrific student performances as you make your way around picturesque Lake Luzerne.

Contributions made in support of this race campaign will directly fund 2017 LMC student scholarships. Each year, more than 65% of students require financial aid in order to attend camp, and LMC is committed to providing support for all.

"Love Letters from Mt. Rushmore"

Local author Richard Cerasani will be the guest speaker.

Most people who visit Mount Rushmore see only the figures of four famous presidents--George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Richard Cerasani see his parents, Arthur and Mary, and the heroic sacrifices they made and obstacles they overcame to work at this national landmark shortly before World War II, which left the huge sculpture in its still unfinished state.

A Wilton resident and former Hollywood screen star, Cerasani captures their first hand experience in his book, "Love Letters from Mount Rushmore: The Story of a Marriage, a Moment and a Moment in History"
