Did President Grant Visit Lake Luzerne, NY?

Join presenter Ben Kemp as he shares his research on the subject of whether our 18th President Ulysses S Grant really visited Lake Luzerne in the 1870's. In addition we'll explore the compelling story of what brought Grant to this area in his final days in 1855 and the cottage he lived in that is now a local historic site. Ben is Site Coordinator with the Friends of Grant Cottage and a Board Member with the Hadley-Lake Luzerne Historical Society.

This film is the story of how people of the Sacandage Valley had to sacrifice their homes, their farms and their livelihoods for the greater good. It is a story of heartbreak, rebirth and a remarkable engineering project in its own right,

Plan to attend this family-fun event, and please bring your own chair or blanket. Concessions will be available. "Harnessing Nature" DVD and books by local authors will be on sale.

Our guest speaker will be archaeologist/author David Starbuck of Chestertown. Mr. Starbuck is noted authority on the archaeology of the Adirondacks. In the early 1990's, he explored war sites of two of North America's coveted pre-revolutionary forts: Fort William Henry and Fort George, and he has not stopped exploring since. Mr. Starbuck will share excerpts from his latest book Archaeology of the Adirondacks and discuss findings from his most recent Adirondack excavations.

Starting at the Pavilion Park in Lake Luzerne strolling down Mill Street to the Memory Tree then proceeding to the Children' Tree located at the Rockwell Harmon House, after the tree lighting stop in the Harmon House for cookies, hot cocoa and goodie bags for the kids. Raffle prizes available.
